The exact ranges, and who drew them ๐Ÿ“

Generation boundaries aren't legislated anywhere โ€” they're sociological conventions, and the most widely cited come from Pew Research, which fixed the Millennial/Gen Z line at 1996/1997 in 2018. The standard working ranges: Silent Generation 1928โ€“1945, Baby Boomers 1946โ€“1964, Gen X 1965โ€“1980, Millennials 1981โ€“1996, Gen Z 1997โ€“2012, Gen Alpha 2013โ€“2024, and Gen Beta 2025 onward. (The Lost Generation, ~1883โ€“1927, sits before the timeline most people ask about.)

Why edges feel blurry โ€” micro-generations ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ

Cohorts change gradually, so boundary years blend. Common overlapping labels include: Xennials (~1977โ€“1983) โ€” analog childhood, digital adulthood, the "Oregon Trail" cohort; Zillennials (~1993โ€“1998) โ€” too young for peak Millennial culture, too old for TikTok-native Gen Z. If you were born within 2โ€“3 years of any boundary, you'll probably relate to both sides. These overlaps reflect gradual social change rather than precise demographic boundaries.

What generations are actually good for ๐Ÿงญ

They're lenses, not cages. Useful for: understanding workplace mix (four generations now share offices), marketing context, and the eternal family-dinner debate about music quality. Not useful for: assuming someone's politics, tech skill, or taste in cake. For the rest of your date-based identity, the Zodiac Finder has your sign and the Age Calculator has the full report. ๐ŸŽ‚
